Fun With Spring Flowers

Some of my students in a recent class asked me if there was one particular arrangement that I made that I was especially proud of. I answered that I love each design on its own unique merits, and that each floral design is created in response to a particular design need or problem. That said, all floral creations (made by me or others) usually get me excited one way or another.

But I do have to admit that I really enjoyed creating this particular design.

I wanted to create something that would really show off some of the wonderful spring allium from Blooming of Beloit..... A design where I could use a number of these flowers, use different varieties and feature the full size of the flowers, making greater use of the length of the stems........

The lavendar vase works well with the purple of many of the allium used here.

The white allium combines well with the white spirea used at the base to provide visual weight at the bottom of the design.

This design is not a small one. It is large, bold and dynamic.

The concept of rhythmic flow is well illustrated here with the point and counterpoint of the two kinds of allium working off each other. To further add to the effect, river cane is placed both horizontally as well as vertically.

Big, bold and impressive... Yet only seven allium and some branches of spirea. What a marvelous way to shape positive and negative space.... Spring, but certainly not a classical spring floral piece.
